Exploring the East Lothian coastline has opened my eyes to some very surprising geology that I never expected to find in Scotland. This secluded bay has striking red sandstone formations that I have only ever seen in Utah or Nevada. It’s one of those locations that is so easy to walk past without taking a second glance, however when the conditions are right they come to life. The conditions on this particular evening were perfect, with low lying cloud and a thin band of clear sky on the horizon. When the sun dipped below the clouds this rock face was positively glowing red for about 5 minutes from the intensity of the setting sun.
